Winterlake Lodge
Situated near the western edge of the Alaska Range, Winterlake Lodge offers seclusion and spectacular scenery. Views of the Trimble Glacier and the beginnings of the Rainy Pass are visible from the lake. Fish Panama's Hannibal Bank
The Hannibal bank is located over 50 miles from the Panamanian mainland. A boat ride here takes a minimum of three hours from most locations. The best way to access these areas is to cut out the commute and stay on our live aboard, the Lost Coast Explorer. The Hannibal Bank goes from a depth of over 3,000 feet to 120 feet within 3 miles. This drastic drop off results in a huge upwelling of cool water, which provides the nourishment for baitfish. The baitfish congregate on the shelves drawing in the big Black Marlin that feed in these shallow waters. Giant schools of Yellow Fin Tuna chase baitfish on the surface and sailfish drive bonita into a frenzy.

Inside Passage Highlights
Our charters are customized to the desires and objectives of our clients. Using our knowledge to meet those objectives is our goal. A pre-booking contact is encouraged to ensure the route chosen best meets your desires and interests. Most trips are action oriented (fishing, crabbing, shrimping, beach combing, hiking, photography and kayaking in pristine estuaries) rather than just cruising. The point is to experience this untouched wilderness in its primitive form and dine on natures daily bounty of fresh caught seafood.
Each month offers something different to the sportsman and conservationist alike. Trout are available in early May, King Salmon in late May to early July and Coho salmon in late July through September. Fly fishing in remote streams and lakes, many accessible only by boat or float plane, usually begins in July. Halibut, crab and shrimp are available all season. Salmon spawning and related bear watching is best mid July to mid September. Cruising to ice filled fjords around Juneau, with associated whale watching can be arranged. Sumdum operates with a USFS guide/outfitters permit for the Tongass National Forest.

Northwest Passages and Glacier Bay
Beginning in June 2012, The newly refitted Wilderness Explorer will sail week-long small ship "un-cruise" adventures between Juneau and Sitka, Alaska with three days spent exploring inside Glacier Bay National Park. A National Park Ranger will stay aboard the ship for the full three days to provide interpretation on the area's history, culture, geography, flora and fauna. The park ranger, along with shipboard expedition guides, will also lead guests on hiking and kayaking expeditions within Glacier Bay.

Our permits with the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge gives is semi exclusive use of the Kulukak River which is a small prolific salmon river that is perfect for fly fishing for King, Chum and Silver Salmon. Another permit with the Togiak National Wildlife refuge gives us semi exclusive use of the Kashiak Creek section of the Togiak River. Only one other guide boat can fish this stretch of water. This section of river is the first holding water up-river for Silver Salmon.
