Zachar Bay Lodge

Zachar Bay Lodge, a former cannery, located on Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska and 250 miles southwest of Anchorage, is situated on 7 private acres surrounded by the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.

The Kodiak Brown Bear is one of the largest carnivores on earth.

Whether you enjoy fishing lakes, rivers or the ocean, we have a package that is right for you

Zachar Bay Lodge was started from nothing, and continues to prosper after more than 20 years

Enjoy our diversity of wildlife and, of course, the playful Kodiak Brown Bears!

My visit to Zachar Bay Lodge was nothing short of inspiring

The lodge operates two Found Bush Hawk (4 passenger) floatplanes. One of the airplanes was manufactured new in 2000 and the other new in 2004, and they are both currently the newest aircraft operating in Kodiak

Your catch is expertly filleted and processed at the end of the fishing day

– Marty Eaton has developed a well rounded perspective of the resources of Kodiak and their impact on one another over the past 40 years

After retiring in 1985, Marty and Linda wanted a retirement project. Together they acquired a derelict cannery on the shores of Zachar Bay

Our guides can bring you to places on Kodiak where bears congregate on the plentiful salmon runs

Produce is grown on site at Zachar Bay Lodge

Accommodations

Zachar Bay Lodge has 11 private guest rooms and a friendly staff of 10. Since 1989, the Eaton's have been providing guests an intimate experience of Kodiak Islands back country and bountiful fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities. The Dining Hall, originally built in the 1960s, retains a large commercial kitchen modernized for their talented chef to prepare tasty home-cooked meals in this Eaton family-run Alaska lodge.

Wildlife

Over 2,300 bears make their home throughout the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. There are large populations of marine mammals such as seals, sea lions and otters. Outside the Bay, pods of finback whales feed year-round.

Activities

Hiking:  Explore the wilds on foot – most daily adventures include some walking to get to the fishing or wildlife viewing of your Alaska vacation adventure.

Kayaking:  Take a tour of the Bay through the ocean.  Relax and paddle at your own pace.

Hunting: Zachar Bay Lodge offers a large (20’ x 100’) secure meat house, in the historic cannery on the dock, which has electricity, large meat processing tables and plenty of room to hang and process your venison. There are three cabins available, depending on the size of your party.
