Zachar Bay Lodge
Zachar Bay Lodge, a former cannery, located on Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska and 250 miles southwest of Anchorage, is situated on 7 private acres surrounded by the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.
Getting There: From Anchorage, a 45 minute floatplane flight delivers the guests to Zachar Bay. The Lodge operates two (4 passenger) floatplanes. Take a look at our Bears!
Accommodations
Zachar Bay Lodge has 11 private guest rooms and a friendly staff of 10. Since 1989, the Eaton's have been providing guests an intimate experience of Kodiak Islands back country and bountiful fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities. The Dining Hall, originally built in the 1960s, retains a large commercial kitchen modernized for their talented chef to prepare tasty home-cooked meals in this Eaton family-run Alaska lodge.
Guides & Boats
Zachar Bay’s guides have a wealth of experience fishing and navigating the areas of Kodiak Island with the five different aluminum boats available for fishing or wildlife adventures.Saltwater Fishing & Tackle
Equipment and tackle are provided depending upon the species of fish (including Salmon and Halibut) targeted. Fish saltwater for five species of salmon, and halibut – all less than 20 minutes from the lodge.
Freshwater (Lakes & Streams) Fishing & Tackle
Equipment and tackle are provided for fishing the nearby rivers and lakes; however, fly fishing equipment is not provided.Fish Processing
Each day’s catch is expertly filleted and processed, then individually vaccum sealed, labeled and frozen for the trip home in airline approved wax boxes.
Wildlife
Over 2,300 bears make their home throughout the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. There are large populations of marine mammals such as seals, sea lions and otters. Outside the Bay, pods of finback whales feed year-round.
Activities
Hiking: Explore the wilds on foot – most daily adventures include some walking to get to the fishing or wildlife viewing of your Alaska vacation adventure.
Kayaking: Take a tour of the Bay through the ocean. Relax and paddle at your own pace.
Hunting: Zachar Bay Lodge offers a large (20’ x 100’) secure meat house, in the historic cannery on the dock, which has electricity, large meat processing tables and plenty of room to hang and process your venison. There are three cabins available, depending on the size of your party.
