Rodgers Family History
For nearly 100 years the Rodgers family has been sportfishing in British Columbia. It began in 1912 when Doug's Grandfather, (Joseph) first towed a string of six rowboats from Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver out to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, where he began Rodgers Boat rentals. Joseph had bought 2000 feet of prime waterfront which eventually housed a hotel and a large dance hall. They built all of their own row boats and had the first put - puts on the BC coast. During the 30's and 40's, Doug's Dad, Howard, rented and chartered boats to sports fisherman looking to land the big one! As well, Howard ran the first water taxi service with his famous boat the Commadore. He serviced places like Britannia Mines, Woodfibre, Port Mellon and Squamish. Twenty five years ago, Doug started his own charter business in Campbell River. What began as Shoreline Charters with one Boston Whaler and one guide (Doug) grew into Anchor Inn Charters with 17 boats and guides.
Wildlife
Our guests will encounter Black Bear on our local beaches most every day. We have the largest colonies of Sea Otters on the coast and the Gray Whales pass by on their way to and from the Bering Sea. Majestic Bald Eagles in vast numbers often gather near the lodge to feast on their favorite food source, salmon.
