Heavenly Halibut - Land of the Giants
After a great dinner and a good nights sleep we were ready to do what came to do...fish. Dawn comes early during the Alaska spring. We were up at 4:30 and the sun was already casting a rich glow on the glaciers across the bay. After a hearty breakfast, we packed a sack lunch and headed to the dock to board the Sea Otter and head out for our first day of fishing. After a 40 minute cruise to a "secret hot-spot," Gary, our skipper, instructed the deckhands to set our down-riggers at 40' and 60'. We began trolling salted herring in hopes of attracting a king salmon. The anticipation was palpable as every eye surveyed the four rods as we plied calm water a mile off-shore.
